I went on Ottawa Valley Tours' bus tour to PEI this past August, and was very happy with much of the tour. We saw some really great places - beautiful views around the island, wading on the beach, several Anne of Green Gables-related museums. Our local guide was very knowledgeable and funny, the bus driver was amazing (and has a great singing voice to boot!), and the tour manager was incredible. She made sure we were kept entertained on the long hours on the bus, from crosswords, word searches, and puzzles, to movies (the 80s Anne of Green Gables among them, naturally). The only issues I had with the trip were, first off, the hotel on PEI itself. The first hotel, in Edmondston, NB, was fine, but the one in Summerside (Quality Inn) was pretty bad. Many on the trip said their rooms smelled of mildew, but were unable to switch rooms as our bus basically filled the hotel. The location also wasn't great. It's about 20 minutes walk from Spinnakers' Landing, but once you've wandered around there for 10 minutes, there's nothing else to really see or do in the area. A hotel in the vicinity of Charlottetown would have been much better, since we drove to and from there (about 40 minutes each way) several times, and it would have been nice to get more time in the city itself. I've been on bus tours with a few different companies, but this was the first time I have been on a tour with a company that actually assigns seats for people, and doesn't let them change seats. Most companies will have people rotate, so you get a different point of view each day, and no one hogs a particular row. Since I travelled solo, and I happened to have been the first to sign up on this tour, I was assigned seat #1, and the only other person who also went solo was assigned the seat right next to me. The front seats on these buses have essentially zero leg room, so I wasn't particularly thrilled about sharing very close quarters on the bus with a stranger for a week. Thankfully, there were a few empty seats at the back (near the bathroom), so we managed to alternate, but having this information ahead of time would certainly have been useful. Rotating the seats would also have been a good idea (and so would a bus with two exits, as some types of buses have, as no one likes to have to wait 10 minutes to get off the bus each time). Definitely no regrets about going on this trip - PEI is beautiful, and I'm glad I got to see it, and the tour manager and bus driver were both excellent, but it wasn't perfect, due to the hotel on PEI, and the company's bus rules.
